Muscle Misfire — Why You Aren’t Building Muscle

Muscle hypertrophy is the technical term for muscle growth. The most common type of muscular hypertrophy occurs as a result of physical exercises such as weightlifting. The required rep ranges used in training to build muscle is a topic of constant debate within the fitness industry. You’re only one Google search away from qualified (and unqualified) opinions on the “road to gains.” The reality is, if building muscle were easy, you would see a lot more impressive bodies in the gym. Muscle growth is more complex than lifting as much weight as possible in every single set. While research is certainly not definitive, we know there are a number of factors that could be inhibiting your ability to pack on muscle.
