Customs sniffer dogs can detect if you are carrying a large amount of cash into Hong Kong.

Customs warned that anyone arriving with more than HK$120,000 in cash or bearer negotiable instruments must make a written declaration from October 16.

Anyone importing or exporting money over that amount as cargo in one go will also need to complete electronic declaration beforehand.

Four cash-detecting dogs, British-trained Labrador retrievers, are stationed at border control points to help officers spot passengers breaching the new regulation.

They are able to pick up the scent of the ink on banknotes of commonly used currencies, including the Hong Kong dollar and the US dollar.
