BRENTWOOD — A K9 team is being commended for its efforts in locating an injured driver after his vehicle rolled over in the area of Deer Hill and North roads Friday night.
Police said Officer George Abele and K9 partner Dax responded to the scene of the crash, which happened at around 10:30 p.m., to search for the driver, who appeared to have been ejected.
Abele and Dax were deployed after officers Kenneth Gauthier and Jared Arsenault conducted a search but were unable to find the driver, later identified as Justin Storace, 27, of Kingston. Police were also assisted by officers from Epping and Fremont.
After a brief search, police said the K9 team found Storace unconscious near the crash scene. At the time, temperatures had dropped below freezing with a wind chill in the low teens.
Storace was taken by a Brentwood ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
He was later charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated — second offense.
Police said it was important to find Storace in a timely manner given the frigid weather conditions and credited the K9 team for its quick discovery.
