Eating right and being physically fit does not necessarily mean you are healthy. There are many factors that contribute to health and overall wellbeing. An important factor repeatedly getting overlooked in our profession is that of mental health.
Mental health issues are growing among first responders, but unfortunately do not receive the attention they deserve. On average, more officers die each year from suicide than from shootings or any other line of duty accidents combined. According to Badge of Life, a nonprofit seeking to prevent police suicides, there is an average of 130 law enforcement suicides every year — eleven per month.
