A wild chase on downtown George Street on Thursday ended with Brockville’s police dog tracking down a driver who fled on foot.
At about 8:45 p.m., Brockville Police spotted a 12-foot enclosed trailer that had been reported stolen earlier in the day and attempted to stop it.
The driver floored it and roared down George at high speed with two police cars in pursuit.
The pursuit was short-lived, police say. The driver of the truck stopped and fled on foot amid the dust raised by the chase.
Diesel, Brockville Police’s dog, tracked the driver and located a 44-year-old man who was arrested.
He faces charges of obtaining property by crime, flight from police, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. The man hit a pole during the pursuit.
Three taken to hospital
A car crash on Stewart Boulevard south of Laurier Boulevard on Sunday at 6:45 p.m. sent three people to Brockville General Hospital.
None of the injuries were life-threatening.
A 23-year-old man was charged with failing to yield from a private driveway.
Tickets from RIDE
The RIDE program was up only for an hour on Friday night, but officers managed to file five charges in that short time.
The check stop on William Street at 10 p.m. resulted in one Highway Traffic Act charge, three charges under the Cannabis Control Act for having cannabis accessible, and one three-day licence suspension.
The three-day suspension came after a driver blew a “warn” on the roadside alcohol screening test, said police.
