At one store officers seized more than 3,000 illegal cigarettes during an operation.
Trading Standards officers and police visited a number of retailers to find out if illicit tobacco was being sold on the premises.
During the operation two spaniels, Daisy and Dixie, who are trained to sniff out the tobacco, were used by Trading Standard officers.
The search led to the recovery of 3,850 illicit cigarettes in one shop – 3,730 of which were found in a void behind a wall – and the dogs were instrumental in the discovery of the haul.
