A man wanted on a Sangamon County burglary warrant abandoned his hiding place in a muddy creek and surrendered to police Tuesday after an Illinois State Police trooper warned he was getting ready to turn his canine partner loose.

Isaac L. Duncan, 38, of Warrensburg, was arrested after an exhaustive search near Cantrall that involved county deputies, Sherman police, federal officers, state troopers, an Illinois State Police aircraft and at least three canine teams, said Lt. Robert Steil of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began about 3:15 p.m. when Sangamon County Deputy Jim Hayes spotted Duncan in Sherman. The deputy recognized Duncan as someone who was wanted on a burglary warrant and attempted a traffic stop, Steil said.
