HIDALGO — U.S. Customs agents at the Hidalgo International Bridge on Sunday seized 40 packages of alleged methamphetamine with a street value of $1 million.

A 25-year old man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico attempting to cross the border was detained by agents for a more thorough inspection of his Ford 500 sedan.

A canine team discovered the 51 pounds of meth hidden in compartments inside the car.

“Our officers’ incomparable sense of awareness and outstanding ability to work as a team has enabled them to accomplish this excellent seizure of yet more hard narcotics,” said Sylvia Briones., Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “Being able to detect anomalies during an inspection, along with persistence, is the key to detecting contraband and keeping it out of our communities.”
